Hi,

I'm new here, but I've been reading for a few days and decided it would be a good place to post.

I'm in recovery, NA and have over 12 years clean. However my post is about how my background has affected my beliefs.

I was in a cult for 13 years.....and some say that I have been brainwashed...Because I have great difficulty changing my beliefs. I've been out of the group for over 20 years and STILL am having difficulty.
I try to actually believe what most christians believe. But we (the group) had some very different beliefs.....and I've struggled to change them, but have in the last two months given up. And I've gone back to a split off of the group that I was in.

Can any one relate??? And can anyone offer any help with this????

Thanks,
Newlife

I might be able to offer a little insight, but actually it will be revealed to you in your thought. The anwers come only if there are questions.
Question: What makes you feel welcome in a cult? Are there things that you have to do to fit in. Do these things benefit anyone? Is there any truth to what the teachings of the cult are?
What kind of person do you want to be? Are the teaching of the cult taking you to that goal?
There are a lot of false teachings out there, in the cult world and in the church world. You need to discover for yourself what the truths are you seek.
I have found in Christ's (not in most church teaching) teaching that the truth I seek is the love of a God which was unknown to me till 1991. A love which put my past behind me and revealed to me a whole new future. The things of my past is truly what made me what I am today but if I had continued to live in the past how far have I come?
All teaching will produce a fruit of the spirit in us. The teachings of Christ will produce this kind of fruit. Gal. 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. This is the kind of person I had a great desire to be. It ain't a bad way to be. This I did not find in church, or on the street or anywhere but in Christ. Hope you find what you are looking for. If it is Christ, you can find Him in the bible.

May the Lord guide you
